The Online Educational Media Certificate is a program that prepares students to become effective media specialists. Completing the 12 hours (4 courses) towards the certificate provides evidence of academic training in Ed Media.
IMPORTANT: A certificate is not certification. These are different words with different meanings.
Question 2: Will completing the 12 hours (4 courses) for the Online Educational Media Certificate meet Florida requirements for certification in Educational Media?
No. Certification in Ed Media is earned in two ways: 1) by completing the Online Ed Media Masters Degree and taking/passing the Ed Media Certification Test OR 2) by taking/passing the Educational Media Certification Test.
IMPORTANT: Completing the Online Educational Media Certificate does NOT earn certification in Ed Media.
Question 3: Where can I find information about the Ed Media Certification Exam?
Information about the Ed Media Certification Exam can be found at the Florida Dept. of Education site or by contacting your district certification person. UCF does not administer the Ed Media Certification Exam.
Question 4: Can I start the Online Educational Media Certificate and switch to the Ed Media Masters program?
Yes. 12 hours of courses with a grade of "B" or better taken in the Online Educational Media Certificate will be accepted into the Online Ed Media Masters program.
Question 5: Will I have to be accepted into the Online Ed Media Masters to transfer the Online Educational Media Certificate courses?
Yes. You must apply to the Online Ed Media Masters program and meet all requirements for acceptance into the masters, including taking the Graduate Record Examination. Complete information on applying for the Ed Media Masters program is available by clicking Admissions in the navigation bar.
Question 6: If I transfer 12 hours of Online Educational Media Certificate courses into the Online Ed Media Masters, will there be additional course work?
Yes. Completion of the Online Ed Media Masters requires 39-45 hours. The 12 hours completed in the Online Educational Media Certificate will count towards the 39-45 hours.
Question 7: If I do not have my temporary or professional certification coursework required to work in a Florida public school, do I still need to complete that?
Yes. The FL DOE, your district certification person, or the UCF College of Education: Office of Student Services can advise you on the course requirements needed to earn a temporary or professional certification. The Online Educational Media Certificate does NOT meet the requirements needed for a temporary or professional certification.
Question 8: Which Major do I select when applying for the Online Educational Media Certificate?
IMPORTANT: When completing the online application you MUST select Online Educational Media Certificate when selecting a Major. If you select the incorrect Major and are admitted to the incorrect program, you will have to submit a new online application for the Online Educational Media Certificate and pay the $30.00 application fee again.
Follow this path to select the correct Major: On the lll Program Information page there is a pull down menu with *Major under the menu. Scroll through the pull down menu until you find Online Educational Media Cert. That is the correct Major.
DO NOT select Educ Media Instr Tech MEd, non degree or Education-Undecided as the Major if you are applying for the Online Educational Media Certificate.
Question 9: Do I have to complete an Immunization Form if I am a Web-based (online student)?
Yes, but you do not have to provide a shot record.
Within the online application you will be asked if you're a Web student. Select Yes. Then you must a) download the Immunization Form (.pdf file), b) print and complete the form, and c) fax/mail the form to Student Health Services. A fax number and mailing address are provided in the Immunization Form or the online application.
If you were born prior to 1956 you must complete the left side of the Immunization Form but you do not have to provide a shot record.
