Ed Media Masters
Online Masters of Education
in Educational Media

Ed Media Masters Program Coordinator and Faculty Two Ed Media faculty are available to assist Ed Media students. Advisement is handled by email, phone and scheduled office appointments.

Dr. Amy Scheick, Ed Media Program Coordinator
If you have questions when applying for admission to the online Educational Media Master of Education or the Online Ed Media Certificate program, Dr. Amy Scheick, Educational Media Program Coordinator will be the contact person for

  • answering your questions regarding admission into graduate school and the online Ed Media Masters and Certificate programs
  • explaining the requirements of the Ed Media Masters and Certificate Program of Study

As you approach the end of the Ed Media Masters Program of Study and start the graduation process, Dr. Scheick will also advise and guide you through the steps needed complete the Ed Media internship and to graduate.   

Dr. Judy Lee, Ed Media Faculty Advisor and Professor
Once you are accepted into the online Ed Media Masters or Certificate program, Dr. Judy Lee will be your Faculty Advisor. Her responsibilities include

  • helping you plan a Ed Media Masters and Certificate Program of Study that meets your personal and career needs
  • answering all questions regarding the Ed Media courses and internships (internship is required for Ed Media Masters only)
  • facilitating Ed Media program milestones such as writing, administering and grading the Comps examination for the Ed Media Masters students

Dr. Lee and two Ed Media Adjuncts also teach the Ed Media Specialization courses. 


Admission into the online Educational Media Master of Education (M.Ed.)
Students who plan to enroll in the Web- based Educational Media (Ed Media) program must be admitted to the University of Central Florida Graduate Studies. To facilitate your admission, apply online early!

All required documentation and information including transcripts, GRE scores, proof of Florida Professional Educator's Certification and essay statements MUST be submitted by the Application Deadlines for acceptance into the Ed Media Masters program in a timely manner. Applicants that miss the Application Deadlines will be required to submit an online application for consideration at the next Application Deadline.

Once you apply to Graduate School and the online Ed Media Masters, you should expect six to eight weeks to receive notification of acceptance or nonacceptance into the online Ed Media Masters.

Applicants can check the status of their online application by going to MyUCF and using the PID to access the information. Application status is contained within MyUCF Student Self Service.


Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and Florida Professional Educator's Certification

Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

Students are required to have a baccalaureate degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited university and GPA of 3.0 or more (on a 4.0 maximum) while registered as an upper-division undergraduate student (normally based on the last sixty attempted semester hours).

In accordance with UCF Graduate Studies, Florida Statute 1004.04 and State Board of Education Rule 6A-5.066, students are required to have a composite quantitative-verbal GRE score of at least 1000.   Students with a GRE composite quantitative-verbal score lower than 1000 must also provide evidence of passing scores on all sections of the CLAST (if taken prior to July 1, 2002) or the FTCE General Knowledge Test.  

All test scores,transcripts and required documentation must be on file at UCF/Graduate Studies to be considered for admission into the Ed Media M.Ed.

Florida Professional Educator's Certification

Students entering the online Ed Media program are expected to have completed all requirements and been granted the Florida Professional Educator's Certificate.   This includes completion of all required coursework, completion of a full-time 10 -week internship and having passed all applicable sections of the FTCE tests (i.e., General Knowledge Test, Subject Area Examination in the prior certification area and Professional Education Test.)  

A copy of the student's Florida Professional Educator's Certificate must be on file at the College of Education to be considered for admission into the M.Ed. in Ed Media. This copy should be mailed, faxed (407-823-4880) or e-mailed as an attachment to Dr. Amy Scheick, Program Coordinator for Educational Media.  Her address is Department of Educational Research, Technology and Leadership, 320L College of Education, University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL, 32816-1250.


Essay Statements
The following Essay Statements should be included in the completed online graduate application form.

Essay Statement #1
Discuss your professional opportunities and experiences as well as your reactions in the following areas:

1a) TEACHER/MEDIA SPECIALIST: Opportunities you had to work with a public school media specialist or 1b) Opportunities you had to work as a public school media specialist.
2a) TECHNOLOGY: The integration of educational/instructional technology into your classroom or media program. 2b) The application or use of any classroom or media center management software used to do your job.
3a) ONLINE: Your experiences with online teaching and learning activities or assignments in a classroom or media center. 3b) Your experiences in designing, developing and/or maintaining a school, classroom or media center informational Web site, wiki or blog.

Essay Statement #2
Discuss pertinent information about yourself that you think may be important in evaluating your candidacy for admission to the Ed Media Online Program. Include such particulars as unusual experiences, travel, honors, special research projects, publications, presentations, creative achievements, and/or varied geographical areas in which you have lived.

Essay Statement #3
Provide the following resume information:

a) Area of your initial FL professional teaching certification
b) E-mail address
c) Two (2) names and phone numbers of professional references
d) Name, address and dates of any public school employment
e) Phone number where you may be contacted

TSL 5373

TSL 5373 Teaching Language Minority Students in K-12 Classrooms (3 credit hours) is a required course needed to complete the online Ed Media Masters. 

This ESOL related co-requisite is prescribed by the College of Education to meet FL DOE state certification requirements. The co-requisite will be waived if the requirement is met by providing evidence of having completed the district-level 60 hour training. Evidence of the district-level 60 hour training is required before this co-requisite can be waived. While this evidence is not required for admission into the Ed Media Masters, it should be submitted immediately following acceptance into the program. 

A copy of this evidence should be obtained from the appropriate district office and faxed (407-823-4880 Attn: Dr. Amy Scheick), emailed (ascheick@mail.ucf.edu) as an attachment or mailed to: Dr. Amy Scheick, Program Coordinator for Educational Media, Dept. of Educational Research, Technology and Leadership, ED320L College of Education, University of Central Florida,Orlando, FL, 32816-1250. 

Dr. Scheick will review the evidence and determine if the TSL 5373 course can be waived. 

Health Form
Students pursuing their degree exclusively through Web- based programs must complete an Immunization Form but they are not required to provide a shot record.

Within the online application you will be asked if you're a Web student. Select Yes. Then you must a) download the Immunization Form (.pdf file), b) print and complete the form, and c) fax/mail the form to Student Health Services. A fax number and mailing address are provided in the Immunization Form or the online application.

If you were born prior to 1956 you must complete the left side of the Immunization Form but you do not have to provide a shot record.

If you change your status to on-campus enrollment, you must submit a completed health form to Student Health Services prior to registering for an on-campus class.
