Graduation
As you approach the end of the Ed Media Program of Study, Dr. Amy Scheick, Ed Media Program Coordinator, will advise and guide you through the graduation process based on the information below.

What You Need to Do to Graduate

FTCE Subject Area Exam (SAE): Ed Media Specialist PK-12 (code 010)

Taking and passing the Educational Media Subject Area Exam (SAE) is required as part of your graduation requirements.

To obtain information for FTCE exams to be administered on or after October 1, 2007, call (413) 256-2893 or visit www.fl.nesinc.com.

IMPORTANT:  If you took and passed the Educational Media Subject Area Exam (SAE) PRIOR to entering the Ed Media Masters, a copy of your official exam results MUST be on file at UCF in order for you to graduate.  The copy should be sent to Dr. Amy Scheick, Program Coordinator for Educational Media, Department of Educational Research, Technology and Leadership, 320L College of Education, University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL, 32816-1250.

First… Review your audit to ensure you have completed all the courses required in the Educational Media Program of Study.

  • You must have completed either an Ed Media job-site internship or a traditional
    internship
    to graduate.

  • You must have taken and passed the FTCE Subject Area Exam (SAE): Ed Media Specialist PK-12 (code 010) to graduate.

  • If you took graduate courses at another accredited college or university and your faculty advisor approved the transfer of these courses into the Ed Media Masters and Program of Study, you must complete a Transfer Request Form. Only 9 hours of approved graduate credit that is no older than 7 years may be transferred.

  • The Transfer Request Form should be mailed to Dr. Amy Scheick, Program Coordinator for Educational Media, Department of Educational Research, Technology and Leadership, 320L College of Education, University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL, 32816-1250.  She will sign and turn the form into the Office of Student Services.

Then…

IMPORTANT

To graduate you must

  • be enrolled in a course during the semester you plan to graduate
  • have taken and passed the Ed Media Certification Test
  • have completed either a traditional or a job-based internship

Read carefully the information found at the Office of Student Services>Graduation FAQs.

The Intent to Graduate form mentioned in the Graduation FAQs should be completed and mailed to Dr. Amy Scheick, Program Coordinator for Educational Media, Department of Educational Research, Technology and Leadership, 320L College of Education, University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL, 32816-1250.  Dr. Scheick will sign the form and turn it into the Office of Student Services.

Comprehensive Examination Form

Details about the Comprehensive Exam
NOTE:  After submitting the Comps Form to Dr. Scheick, any questions you have specific to the Comps Exam itself should be emailed to Dr. Judy Lee, Ed Media Faculty Advisor.  Dr. Lee will write, administer and grade the Ed Media Comps.

Your comp exam will be administered by Dr. Lee via e-mail. You will receive the Comp exam questions on the Friday afternoon of the comps exam date and have from Friday to Monday, 9:00 AM of the exam date to complete the exam. Comp exams sent after Monday, 9:00 AM will not be accepted. Comprehensive exam answers should be e-mail as attachments (Microsoft Word required) to Dr. Lee, your Ed Media Faculty Advisor.

  • Each comp exam answer should be e-mailed as a separate attachment within the e-mail
message. Use the following subject heading: Ed Media Comp Exam.
  • You are required to answer four comps questions.
  • The Comprehensive Exams answers should be from 5 to 6 pages and include a separate bibliography or reference page (not one of the 5-6 pages).
  • You should use APA format for each comp question.
  • Follow all APA guidelines, including citations in the text and references at the end of the paper.
  • A scholarly approach is expected when writing your Comprehensive Exam answers.

You may use course notes, course texts, professional journals, and online resources to answer the questions. Personal opinions and descriptions of professional experiences are not appropriate for Comprehensive Examinations.

Each question should have a cover sheet with the following information: a) Comprehensive Exam Question, b) your name, c) Educational Media, and d) the date.

Grading
Dr. Lee and another Ed Media faculty member will read and grade the comps exam. If all the comp exam questions are not satisfactorily completed, Dr. Lee will notify you and you will have an opportunity to either rewrite the unsatisfactory exam question(s) or answer the unsatisfactory exam question(s) with an Ed Media faculty member. If the exam is not satisfactorily completed on the second attempt, you will be required to retake the complete exam. You can not graduate until the Comprehensive Examination is passed to the satisfaction of the Ed Media faculty.

The final comps grade will be submitted by Dr. Lee to Dr. Scheick.  You will be notified of the results of your comps exam by email.

The Big Day!

If you plan to attend the UCF graduation ceremony, you will need to rent the appropriate cap and gown. Graduation is held at the UCF Arena. Information about graduation can be found at UCF by using the keyword search.
